New Development in the Colorado Governor's Race
July 22, 2010 by Jack Ott

Recent developments in the race for the Republican nomination for Governor to run against Democrat John Hickenlooper took a new turn today. Former congressman Tom Tancredo announced in a published letter today that,

"Regardless of the outcome of the Primary election on August 10, on August 11 the winner [either Scott McGinnis or Dan Maes] must agree to remove himself from consideration if polling on that date shows that he is losing the race for Governor. If either or both choose to ignore this request, and do not make a public commitment to this end no later than noon on Monday, July 26, I will announce on that day that I will seek the nomination of the American Constitution Party for Governor of Colorado."

(The full context of the letter can be seen HERE)

Most analysts see this as blatant expectancy on the part of Tancredo that the Colorado GOP powers-that-be would automatically name him as the party's candidate to run against Hickenloopper in the November General Election, regardless of the outcome of the Primary Election.

CCM members and friends are encouraged to submit comments (in good taste) on this development via e-mail to:

Comments (2):

(1.) I am totally thrilled to learn that Tom Tancredo may enter the race. We need someone we can trust ... and if he enters count me in to help him win! - Pam Everix

(2) I’m not sure who “most analysts” may be, but I don’t see the GOP getting anywhere NEAR a Tancredo nomination.  If it comes to the party needing to make a nomination, I expect them to pick a party “hack” who would be acceptable to the old guard and probably not anywhere close to what Tea Party members and sympathizers could support.  What a mess! - Donna Aydelott

An Auspicious Beginning

(July 20 Meeting Report)

Neither lightning and thunder nor southeast metro traffic jams prevented a fair turnout for this month's chapter meeting at the Piney Creek Clubhouse in south Aurora last night. Those who braved the elements and delays were treated to a stimulating meeting, with the main feature being a presentation by LU ANN BUSSE, Chairperson of The 9.12 Project Colorado Coalition and a member of the National 9.12 Project Advisory Board. After a brief description of the loosely-knit statewide 9.12 coalition in Colorado, she described the coalitions leadership/advisory team, the goals that have been set for 2010 and beyond, and the basic principles that guide the coalition. They were very similar to the overall goals and principles of CCM.

Among the highlights of her presentation was the citing of an April, 2010 Rasmussen Poll that showed that, in Colorado,+- "64% of Republicans say they're members of the Tea Party movement, compared to 10% of Democrats and 31% of voters not affiliated". (Click HERE to see the full report.) These numbers are far above the national average, and make Colorado the most active "Tea Party" state in the U.S.

Lu also described a new television program that will begin airing on Sunday mornings throughout Colorado within the next month or two. The program is a part of the 9.12's voter education effort, and will provide the opportunity for organizations such as CCM to get its name and word out to the public. More information will follow as it becomes available.

ROY CALDWELL updated the group on his progress with the Voter Registration Project. He has completed laying out the groundwork for the registration "booths", including obtaining large CCM-logo signs for the booth. A new committee to be headed by ROY was established for further planning and carrying out the registration project. It is expected that the committee will be holding its first meeting within two weeks. Members will be notified when the meeting is scheduled. Needless to say, volunteers will be needed. This is a chance to become actively involved in a very worthwhile project.

RON MICHEL provided a report on the Western Conservative Summit, which was held at the Denver Marriott from July 9th – July 11th. It featured many excellent and renowned speakers, including Michele Bachmann, Dennis Prager, Michelle Malkin, and John Eastman. The program was sponsored by the Centennial Institute, and was so successful that it will become an annual event.

JACK OTT led a brief discussion regarding the ongoing search for a new chapter meeting location. Two alternative locations were mentioned; the first was a conference facility provided by the National MS Society's Denver Headquarters near Broadway and I-25, and the other one provided by the Denver Police Dept. and its 2nd Division station near I-70 and Quebec St. JACK will visit both locations within the next few weeks to decide if either of them meet our needs and offer advantages over the Piney Creek Clubhouse facility. One of the primary considerations will be a centralized location.

A new feature at last night's meeting as well as at future meetings is a "CCM Library", in which members can bring used books to the meetings for other members to read and return. Members are asked to donate books to this library, on a temporary basis. Among the books already available are MARK LEVIN's Liberty and Tyranny, and FRED HOLDEN's book Total Power of One in America.

An unexpected but welcome visitor asked for permission to say a few words prior to the end of the meeting. The visitor was PHIL WINKLER, author of the book America's History Revealed. which deals with intentional and unintentional errors and omissions that can be found in American History books used today in our education system. He cited numerous examples that can be found in his book.

More information regarding WINKLER's book, as well as ordering information, can be found on the website of The Liberty and Independence Press at:

http://www.libertyindependence.com/

During the roundtable/discussion portion of the meeting, WILL FREEMAN reminded members about a discussion from an earlier meeting regarding holding a barbecue/social event in lieu of one of our regular monthly meetings. The idea was well received, and WILL, along with GORDON CALAHAN, will investigate holding the event during September.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45PM.

A change of scenery
July 14, 2010 by Jack Ott

In an effort to reduce the costs of holding the monthly Chapter meetings, we are once again searching for a low-cost, centralized location to get together each month. While the classroom in the Beckman Center on the CCU campus was comfortable and well-equipped, its cost of $60 per meeting was having a serious impact on our budget.

WILL FREEMAN took it upon himself to find a location for our July meeting, arranging for the use of his subdivision's clubhouse at Piney Creek in south Aurora. While the location is not centrally located, it will cost the Chapter nothing for its use. The clubhouse is located at 5800 S. Joplin Way, just two blocks east of South Parker Road and 1 block north of E. Orchard Rd.

If anyone else is aware of any facilities that are inexpensive and more centrally located (for example, in the downtown Denver area), please let us know.

Where the Tea Parties Should Go From Here
The power of the movement is its independence from Democrats and the GOP.
February 18, 2010 by Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal (Article)

The tea partiers have made an important splash because they are not yet another auxiliary to the Democratic or Republican parties. Like the pro-life and Second Amendment movements before it, the tea party movement will have a bigger impact if it holds the feet of politicians in both parties to its fire. Each party must know it can win or lose swing tea party voters.

The Tea Party Movement, The GOP & Making It Work (Article)

If the Republican Party refuses to understand the dramatically changed political landscape of the country, if they refuse to evolve from the inside-the-beltway mentality that allows for the existence of egotistical power-players no different from the elitists now in control of Congress, should the GOP insist on maintaining the status quo, they will be compromised, marginalized and, perhaps, even destroyed by the re-awakening of the American people to their constitutionally mandated obligation to governmental engagement and oversight.
