"Save Our Constitution"
Rally draws local chapter members,
September 20, 2009
"Why do things like this make a grown
man cry? Guess cause I am old & remember," wrote Denver Chapter member RON MICHEL
after Saturday's rally on the west steps of the State Capitol. RON was one of a few
members who attended the event sponsored by the Council for Wise Public Policy. A
relatively small crowd of just a few hundred people spent a glorious end-of-summer
Saturday afternoon listening to speakers John Andrews of the Centennial Institute and
Backbone Radio, noted constitutional scholar Mike Holler, and our own SEAN DOHERTY, plus
others, address the growing threats to our First and Second Amendment Rights.
Among other things, SEAN described the
opposition that he encountered from the administrators of Metro State University, when he
first approached them with the idea of publishing a conservatice on-campus newspaper, The
Constitutional Reporter. Fearing the spread of reactionary and racist thoughts on
campus, they refused to grant permission for the newspaper to be published. Not letting
the politically-correct fears interfere with his plans, he began publising anyway, and has
encountered no further opposition from the school.

About 200 attendees gathered at the State Capitol

Congress Votes to Cut Off Funding
for ACORN
September 18, 2009
The U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives both voted yesterday to cut off
federal funding for the left-wing activist group ACORN. Only the amount of support for
this move came as a surprise. Giving credit where credit is due, all of Colorado's
congressional members voted in support of the bill, with the exceptions of House members
Dianne DeGette and Jared Polis.
It should be noted that this measure was an
amend- ment to the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009, which effectively
nationalized the college student loan industry, putting conservative members in the
unpleasant situation of voting in favor of more big-government in order to eliminate
federal support for ACORN. We can only hope that this vote will put the radical group out
of business permanently.

September Chapter Meeting
September 17, 2009
For whatever reasons, the turnout at the
Tuesday night meeting in Beckman Hall on the CCU campus was very disappointing. Because of
this, the scheduled agenda was scrapped and those in attendance engaged in a analytical
discussion concerning the status and future of the Denver Chapter.
The timing of this development could not
have been worse. In the days just prior to the scheduled meeting, the chapter had signed a
contract with Colorado Christian University for meeting space, taken out a large insurance
policy to meet contractual requirements, and had filed with the Colorado Secretary of
State's office as well as the IRS to validate its 591(c)(4) status.
The fact that no guest speaker had been
scheduled for the meeting was cited as a possible reason for the low turnout. JACK OTT
explained that because of the large amount of re-organizational work that required
membership participation, it was decided to schedule the entire meeting time to
accomplish it this month.

"9.12 March on
Denver" Tea Party
September 12, 2009
Denver Chapter members joined well over a thousand
Coloradans on the west steps of the State Capitol today to send the conservative message
to politicians in Washington D.C.
The "9.12 March on Denver"
was a part of the coordinated nationwide effort in support of the "March on
Washington" conducted by the Tea Party Express. Estimates as high as 2 million people
(ABC News) attended the Washington rally.
Those in attendance heard stimulating
speeches by such personalities as Jon Caldara and Amy Oliver-Cooke of the Independence
Institute, and Jason Lewis from radio station KHOW.
It was not all listening, cheering, and
waving signs, however. KENNY and LANCE POLZIN spent the entire time getting petition
signatures in support of NATALIE MENTEN's efforts to get three tax-cutting proposals on
Colorado's 2010 ballot. Meanwhile, other members were distributing CCM information
brochures specifically prepared for this event.
Today's turnout marked the biggest
involvement by the Denver Chapter in any major grassroots event.

A Busy Week
September 2, 2009
It has been a busy week for members of
the Denver Chapter. On Monday night, JACK OTT, KEN POLZIN, and SEAN DOHERTY attended a
meeting of Liberty on the Rocks (Red Rocks) at Old Chicago Restaurant
in Lakewood. It was one of an ongoing series
of informal meetings of conservative minded people who get together for food, libation,
and good conversation every other week. It usually features a well-known guest speaker,
and this week was no exception. Congressman Mike Coffman imparted words of wisdom on
current developments inside the beltway, with the focus on everybodys favorite
subject, health care reform.
Before and after the congressmans
talk, KEN could be seen working the crowd with activist and CCM ally NATALIE MENTEN,
lining up signatures for her three petitions to get tax issues on the Colorado ballot in
2010, while JACK was passing out recruiting brochures for CCM and inviting people to come
to our next chapter meeting. Both efforts received positive responses.
On Tuesday night, JACK, KEN, NANCY
FOWLER, and NATALIE made the long trip down to Colorado Springs to attend this
months meeting of the Colorado Springs Chapter of CCM. To say the least, it was
quite impressive, with 80 to 100 people in attendance. According to DAN LANOTTE, CCM-COS
President, they have had much larger crowds in the past, occasionally bringing in up to
150 members and visitors.
Those in attendance heard a very
informative presentation by Mr. Stephen Metcalfe, a conservative activist and immigrant
from the United Kingdom, who talked primarily about the pitfalls of the British system of
socialized health care and how, if the current Health Care legislation before Congress
passes, America could expect the same. Once again, KEN and NATALIE gathered petition
signatures from most of those who were at the meeting, while JACK kept busy taking notes about the workings of a very successful
organization.
