The Denver Post's conservative newspaper columnist DAVID HARSANYI fielded questions from the audience at last night's monthly meeting of CCM-Denver, held at the Beckman Center on the CCU campus in Lakewood. The discussion ranged from expectations for this year's elections to public education funding and entitlement programs. While Mr. Harsanyi's responses were not always what the audience had hoped to hear, the

overall response was very positive and enthusiastic.

In general, Mr. Harsanyi's outlook for the Colorado Governor's race was pessimistic from a conservative's viewpoint, but he was far more confident about the Senate race for the seat of the incumbent Michael Bennet.

On the issue of the dismal status of public education in America, he laid the blame on parents as well as the  teachers' unions, and suggested that the federal government should get out of the education business.

Moving on to the business side of the meeting, ROY CALDWELL offered a proposal for a Chapter Project that would encourage voter registrations by providing booths or tables at key locations at which people would be able to update or change their voter registrations prior to the elections. The idea was well received, and a small  committee of volunteers was formed to investigate the feasibility of the idea and develop a plan for its accomplishment.

Another potential Project was introduced by JACK OTT that would involve the chapter in a fund raising project to help pay for needed repairs to the State Capitol dome. After a brief discussion, the idea was deferred to the June meeting as more details became available.

Two visitors (hopefully new members) introduced themselves and were welcomed. They were DONNA AYDELOTT and TROY HULL. Both made significant contributions to the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:30pm.

The next Chapter Meeting will take place on June 15, 2010 at 7:00pm. The Guest Speaker will be former Congressman Tom Tancredo.
