Rebooting the Debate

An interesting article at American Thinker
about the importance of terminology during political discussions and debates, especially
with Liberals. Do not let your opponent define the issues, for you will never prevail if
you do.

November Denver Chapter Meeting
Thursday, November 19, 2009
The Denver
Chapter of the Coalition for a Conservative Majority held its monthly meeting on November
17, 2009 on the campus of Colorado Christian University. There were twelve members present
at the meeting.
After the opening
ceremony, those in attendance approved the Minutes from the October meeting. Chapter
Treasurer BRENDA FISCHER gave a brief report on the Chapters financial status.
The Guest Speaker
at the meeting was Ms. Crista Huff, who is a conservative activist in Douglas County. The
topics of her presentation included a description of the various grassroots activities
that took place in the recent elections for the Douglas County School Board and the Castle
Pines North mayoral race. Both resulted in conservative upsets of the previous incumbents.
Ms. Huff also
discussed the precinct caucus process, focusing on how people can be elected as delegates
to the County, District, and State Party Assemblies to allow their voices to be heard. She
also talked about the role of precinct committee persons, and how the delegate selection
process works. In both situations, she said, it is important to prepare and distribute
beforehand a personal fact sheet for the caucus, as well as to present a well-groomed and
well-dressed image at the caucus.
After the
presentation, a brief question and answer session took place. Here it was pointed out that
counties have varying rules and procedures, resulting in slightly different procedures.
Chapter members
were then asked to discuss other conservative grassroots organizations with which they
were involved. The intent here was to determine whether CCM could provide assistance or
coordination with these groups. RON MICHEL described his participation on the TABOR
Committee/Foundation. He also described the group Clear the Bench Colorado (CTBC)
which is mounting an effort to have voters remove liberal Colorado Supreme Court justices
in the 2010 election. It was recommended that Matt Arnold, CTBC Director, be invited to
speak at the December Chapter meeting.
In response to a
question from LANCE POLZIN, JACK OTT committed to contacting the Independence Institute to
determine what programs it was planning that CCM could help implement as a major project
in 2010.
Regarding the
December meeting, it was agreed by those present that another White Elephant
gift exchange should take place, similar to that which took place at the December 2008
meeting. Gifts should be limited to $10 maximum, and the exchange will take place after
the Guest Speakers presentation.
The meeting
adjourned at 8:35PM.
